Anguilla Tennis Academy Inc.Summer 2000 CampTo: Daily Herald From: Brenda Carty Date: July 13, 2000 Good local support for tennis campANGUILLA—The fifth annual tennis camp got underway on Monday July 10 with more than 100 children participating in the three weeks of coaching. Camp Director, Mitchelle Lake told the Daily Herald that he is very pleased with the level of enthusiasm and interest for the sport and also expressed his gratitude to all the local sponsors for their support of the programme.
Assisting Lake are Damien Hughes, who is Tournament Director and for the first time this year Eli Armstrong, Tennis Director from CuisinArt Resort and Spa. He suggested that the Anguilla Tennis Academy is one of the more progressive programmes in the Caribbean and will open up many avenues for the participants. More than twenty local businesses have contributed funding for the camp. Lake particularly mentioned All Island Cable Television for their donation of US $2000.00, Carimar and Frangipani for accommodating the coaches, Malliouhana Hotel for the use of their courts, Triple K Car Rental and Highway Rent-a-car for providing vehicles for the coaches and Cable and Wireless for communication for the coaches through cellular phones. International support is from BET television, Wilson Sports Goods, Carson Products, and American Airlines/American Eagle. The coaches all commended the children for their talent and level of interest and through the camp are hoping to make tennis one of the major sports on the island.
